Some old trends just keep coming back and wallpaper is one of them. Why is that? Because really good ideas never go out of style - sometimes they just need a little updating.
Wallpaper is back in a big way but it's moved beyond the simple feature wall. It has become so popular because of the texture it adds, giving a room with four simple walls some definition and makes a statement.
But at times, it's hard to choose where to start and where to end - quite literally in this case! Here are some ideas you may want to try and incorporate into your home.

Use wallpaper as a counterpoint within a space. If you find it looks odd when wallpaper suddenly ends at the edge of one wall, then opt for papering an architectural feature, like an alcove or a bump out over a fireplace. This helps define a distinct area of a room.
Choose a wallpaper that is consistent with the overall design of the room.
If you are going to use wallpaper as a feature, choose a large scale pattern with coordinating solid colors on the other wall to turn from a wall to a piece of artwork defining the room.
Add depth to a small space with a 3-D design.
Don't forget the ceiling's also an option, especially if you choose a pattern that imitates a period detail.

Go the whole hog and envelope a whole hall, walls and ceiling included, in a bold wallpaper to form an entrance with oomph and creating contrast with the rooms to which it leads.
For impact use one drop in a stronger, even contrasting color, to make a more powerful statement.
If you want to really go large, juxtapose florals with stripes. For coherence, it's best to choose paper that subtly complement each other

If you've got your eye on a fabric then use that instead! Apply with liquid starch and voila! Or even go more unique and use newspaper, maps, magazines, comic books...
