Today we have a guest blogger who writes for us, her name is Agnes and she runs the lovely, inspiring blog hejregina. At Bemz we love do-it-yourself projects and are all about personalisation, which is why we asked Agnes to tell us about how she gave a second-hand Karlanda sofa a completally new look, thanks to a cover from Bemz and some clever diy-ing.
My name is Agnes and I'm running the blog hejregina (Regina is my middle name).
When my boyfriend and I moved to a bigger apartment, we also needed a bigger sofa. We wanted a sofa that not everyone else had, but that we could afford.
We looked at the Swedish flea market site Blocket and found a sofa from IKEA for 400SEK. It was in a drab, brown fabric so we started by ordering a new sofa cover in Zink Grey from Bemz.
We changed the original legs from IKEA to new ones from PrettyPegs. The new legs fit better to the new colour and to the apartment overall.
To make the sofa even more personal, we put buttons in the cushions. You can cut out a piece of fabric behind the cushions where you can't see or select buttons in a totally different fabric. I used a big needle that last through the entire cushion to get the buttons in place.
The result - a completely unique, not too expensive, one of a kind sofa!
Thank you Agnes for your very inspiring post. Visit Agnes blog here and follow her on Instagram @agnesregina.
Let’s start the New Year by taking a look at the hottest interior design trends that will define 2014, with a focus on colours and textiles.
The biggest trends are undoubtedly lots of fabrics in cool pastels, bright yellow and strong patterns, especially graphic and floral patterns, which when combined create a fresh, modern yet highly personal look.
Update your home by mixing these trends with your current interior. Whether you want to make big or small changes you can easily change the expression of any room with Bemz products. We picked out some inspiring photos with examples of how you can use these trends in your own home.
The vibrant and graphic patterns mixed in this room complement rather than clash with each other thanks to a restricted colour palette of pink and green that is repeated throughout. Pops of bright yellow ground the look and ensure it stays spot on trend for 2014.
A bed skirt and cushion covers in lavender and green pastel colours adds warmth to a bright bedroom and help it maintain a sense of peace. Combine them with wood furniture in honey tones, which is also big for 2014, for a trendy yet classic look.
Create a dining room that gives you a sense of joy by adding beautiful colours and patterns. Because pastels are bright and calm, they are easily paired with a broad range of colours range and mix equally well with a variety different patterns.
Floral patterns are not only stylish, but give you a home to thrive in. Do you prefer cooler colours, choose floral patterns in blues, grays or black/white. If warmer, more feminine colours are what you are after, then pinks, purples, reds, yellow or green will get you there. Alternatively, mix warm and cool shades exactly as you want if you want something in between.
Graphic patterns in black/grey and white create a home that feels sophisticated, contemporary and adds interest. If you want to soften the expression but like the colour concept, use floral patterns in black, grey and white instead.
Luca of Italy send in this wonderful photo of a set of Henriksdal chairs revamped in new covers from Bemz. As you can see, Luca went with four different colours and patterns resulting in a playful chocolate box effect.
Here’s what Jenny wrote (translated): Hello to the Bemz team.Thank you for all your hard work. My chair cover arrived this morning with TNT. Needless to say I was eager to upcycle my Karlstad armchair whose cover was damaged by the claws of my two cats, after six years of daily use and three moves. I put the new cover on without difficulty (it's really tailored, bravo!) And my chair is like new. The Fuchsia colour is bright and extremely friendly. And I love it! Now, I’m regretting that my sofa is not an Ikea because it could do with a new cover too! I will certainly recommend Bemz to my friends.
Merci bien for the kudos and for sharing your home with us Jenny. The vibrant colour slots right in with the bright, happy ambiance of the room, enhancing the eclectic artwork on the wall. Your delightful furry friend seems to be pretty happy with the new cover too – and the perfect contrast to boot!
If you have a Bemz cover, pet or no pet, send us a photo to blog [at] bemz [dot] com or upload it to our Facebook page. We'd love to see it!
