While visiting some of my fave blogs, I came across this post on decor8 about greige. It reminded me of the time I painted the sleep alcove (yes, the flat was that small!) of the very first piece of real estate I could call my own... Or the bank's. The previous owner had painted the lower half of the wall a hideous orangey, red then papered on a yellow border that was full of squiggles (yes, that is the technical term - I looked it up) and painted the top half a muted yellow. Does not exactly make for a serene and calming environment to wake to in the morning. If only I had taken a photo!
I repainted it in "Stockholm White" - which was all the rage at the time, in Stockholm at least! When I was done - four coats later - and stood back to take in the fruits of my wares I realized, with slight disappointment, that it was in fact a greyish white. That's right! Greige (=adj. not bleached or dyed; unfinished; raw). Little did I know I was ahead of my time...
And now it's actually a blog! I can see the appeal of greige - it's a mix of Simple Life and Bohemian Chic with a dash of Nordic Home. It's serene, and soft, and natural and calming, and very, very appealing. Greige. Enjoy!
