With only one more day to go before a total of 11 Marimekko designs are available for the first time as Bemz slipcovers for IKEA sofas and chairs, I bring to you the fourth designer who has also contributed to this new collection: Iiro A. Ahokas.

A graduate from the University of Art and Design in 2001, with an MA from the department of ceramic and glass design, he specialized in product and concept design.
Iiro has a talent for creating natural prints with surprising dynamism. He works quickly and intensively, brainstorming ideas by listing words from which the desired feeling is formed. He then condenses the words into an ideal image, which he calls "the essence". Using this ideal image he is able to give structure to the concept and decide how it is to be realized. He views the world through colors, forms and relationships.
At Marimekko, Iiro has achieved one long term goal: to work with textiles and printed fabrics.
